Working on Trauma

A workshop by Laia Abril

3-day intensive workshop led by artist Laia Abril. She will share the key concepts of her work through an examination of her most important projects. Abril will reflect upon her methodology, based on thorough research, which aims to explore the dark, hidden realities around grief, biopolitics and women’s rights.

Participants will be part of a think tank dealing with trauma. The workshop unites psychology and art to reflect on the notion of trauma as a personal experience, a political weapon, and a form of expression. They will discuss topics such as the ethics of representation, emotional editing, the politics of the archive, and the conceptualisation of artistic research and space as a narrative language.

The aim of this think tank is to examine in depth the idea and use of multidisciplinary methodologies. Participants will widen their vision both in form(s) and format(s), while they explore themes such as vulnerability, aftercare, and violence. In addition, they will have the opportunity to share their own experiences, ideas, and doubts for group discussion.

This workshop is especially intended for a heterogeneity of profiles and fields of knowledge: art and photography, literature and creative writing, philosophy, gender studies, cinema, anthropology and sociology, medical, psychological and psychiatric disciplines, social work. From artists working on issues related to trauma, to healthcare professionals interested in exploring artistic narratives.

Thus, we aim to create a plural space where exchange becomes the basis of reflection and creation.
