Hotel Room

A workshop by Jérôme Bonnet

3-day intensive workshop taught by leading portrait photographer Jerome Bonnet. The workshop will focus on the use of light in photography, veering away from a purely technical approach and proposing instead an author-based perspective. This workshop will offer all 15 participants the opportunity to really think about their authorship, and will enable them to use the materials and methodologies acquired in the workshop to enhance their own work.

The programme will focus on the use of continuous light, and will be largely based on shooting sessions under the guidance and expertise of Bonnet. The goal will be to skillfully deal with light sources in different surroundings and situations. Through practical exercises, the participants will learn to use light to enhance the narrative aspects of photography: create a mood, shape space, reveal hidden details, and deliver a message.

The workshop will also emphasise the importance of editing, and will provide all participants with the tools and knowledge to develop editing as a crucial part of the creative process. All participants will have the opportunity to talk about their work in group discussions, and to receive direct feedback from Bonnet. ‘Hotel Room’ is not only about mastering the use of light, but also about engaging with it as an emotion, a language, an encounter.
