Searching for the light
A workshop by Lorenzo Castore
6-day intensive workshop led by documentary photographer Lorenzo Castore. The goal of this workshop is to make the students aware of the importance of using light as a writing tool devoted to strengthen the content of each work. This could be done through the use of natural light or artificial light.
‘Searching for the light’ addresses the learning process from the students’ perspective, striving to enhance their own particular projects and to develop their own distinctive authorships.
The students should apply by sending a pdf portfolio of their work, along with a letter of intention about their approach to photography. This statement should include things such as: why they do photography, what they look for through photography, which is the kind of photography or subject they want to experience during the workshop. This should represent a sort of visual ID, a personal account of how they understand their work and the narratives they want to explore through their images.
In the application the students should also write at least 3 practical ideas about something they would like to shoot during the workshop. It can be anything: a specific or wide subject, portrait, street photography, nude, documentary, conceptual, etc. Castore will study all the applications in order to better adjust to the students’ needs and interests throughout the course, as well as providing them with everything they will need during the shootings: fixer, model, location, artificial lights, etc.
