Paolo Verzone

Northern Lights

A journey with Paolo Verzone

Travel & Learn

This journey proposes a week-long lighting expedition in the Arctic with photographer Paolo Verzone.

The workshop will take place in Longyearbyen – the world's northernmost urban community located in the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago. Light serves as a metaphorical compass to navigate Svalbard's surroundings, landscapes, and manifold curiosities.

This workshop is conceived as a photographic expedition. The participants will enjoy a complete itinerary and a focus on both theoretical and practical excellence. They will have the opportunity to explore the use of light through a wide range of different landscapes, from the streets of Longyearbyen —the capital of Svalbard— to the mountains, the coal mines, and the ice caves. They will learn to engage with photography in new, unknown conditions while participating in hikes and dog sleigh rides.

This workshop offers a unique setting for photographers to develop their projects. The last two days of the workshop will include intensive debriefing sessions where the participants engage in sharing and commenting the photographs taken during the week.

The enrollment fee includes a hike to the Ice Caves with safety equipment and guiding, shooting inside a former Coal mine, dog sledding, and the hike to the mountain surrounding the city of Longyearbyen with a local guide.

It is recommended that participants be in good physical condition to endure the workshop activities.
